museum contemporary art MOCA

MOCA Bangkok (Museum of Contemporary Art) is located on the easily accessible 6th road of Kampang Pethch. It contains a large collection of valuable paintings and sculptures created by famous Thai artists. The key concept of the museum was to communicate, promote and transfer the authentic art and culture of Thailand to the Thai people and the people of the world, especially to the future generations… continuously.

It is the place where a long but interesting history of Thai art is recorded and a perfect combination of extraordinary Thai traditional art and internationally renowned academic art is demonstrated.

Inside, contemporary art by Thai artists of different generations is displayed so that the uniqueness of Thai art is now presented to the world.

Mr. Boonchai is a businessman in the telecommunications and information technology sector. It was his passion and strong determination to preserve traditional Thai art and culture for younger generations that led him to establish a Thai art museum. In March 2012, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over the opening ceremony of the Museum of Contemporary Art or MOCA.

The highlight or focal point of this museum is the special design and lighting that will maximize your appreciation and happiness from the beginning of the journey at the entrance to the end of the last gallery. This could be an inspiration for many art students, art teachers, young artists, connoisseurs, tourists or ordinary people who are just starting to appreciate Thai art.

From a design perspective, the building looks as if it was aesthetically carved from a single piece of granite. The most striking feature of the building is the open-air sculpture that adorns each side of the facade, resembling charming jasmine columns that cascade down the wall. The gaps between the jasmine feathers allow natural light to trace the patterns of the carved walls on the atrium floor, while revealing the excellence of the execution that can give a different impression depending on the season.
